8th CPC Hike: The ₹54,000 Minimum Pay Proposal Explained

Trending Today: National JCM and various central employee unions have submitted a proposal for a record-breaking minimum basic pay of ₹54,000.

The Fitment Factor Debate

To achieve the ₹54,000 minimum pay, unions are demanding a Fitment Factor of 3.0 or higher. Currently, the 7th Pay Commission uses a factor of 2.57. If approved, this would lead to a massive jump in the monthly take-home salary for millions of employees.

Key Union Demands:

  • Minimum Basic Pay: ₹54,000 (Up from ₹18,000 in 7th CPC).
  • HRA Revision: Demand for an automatic 3-tier hike linked to city category.
  • Pension Parity: Full implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) principles for all retirees.

The March 16 Deadline

The 8th CPC questionnaire submission deadline is March 16, 2026. Experts believe the government might finalize the report by early 2027, making this the most crucial phase for employee feedback.
